PROCESS TO REGISTER AS A VOLUNTEER

​Thank you for volunteering at Arcadia.  SUSD has updated its volunteer process to ensure the safety of our students.  Even if you have volunteered in previous years, please follow the following steps to be cleared as a volunteer.  Your volunteer clearance will be valid at ALL SUSD schools for the duration of the school year in which you apply (July to June). 

​Please read through all of the instructions before getting started.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.  
  2. All volunteers will be required to complete the Scottsdale Unified School District #48 COVID-19 Waiver, Release, and Assumption of Risk Form.
  3. Volunteers that will be around students are required to submit to a Background Check ($50). Please note that this process typically takes between 24 – 72 business hours to complete.  ** if you do not have a social security number, please enter all zeros **

 STEP 1  - Complete Annual SUSD Volunteer Application for the new School Year
  1. Go to  www.susd.org/volunteer for the VOLUNTEER / CHAPERONE APPLICATION.
  2. Read all instructions on the page for any possible updates on volunteer procedure.
  3. Select APPLY NOW
  4. Select APPLY FOR THIS POSITION
  5. For first time volunteers, you will need to create a user name and password. 
    For existing users, please log in.  You will be able to update your old application.
 
STEP 2: Email AHS Admin Assistant Derdra Kakou
  1. After completing and submitting your entire application, please email Dedra Kakou at dkakou@susd.org.  to let her know you have completed the application + the position you are filling out the volunteer application for (One lunch, copy mom, bookstore, front office…). 
  2. Dedra will then notify the district that AHS is requesting the background check to start processing. 
 
STEP 3: Appointment at SUSD Office to get SUSD Volunteer Badge
What to Bring : Photo ID + Background Check Payment if applicable (see step 4 for details on background check)
  1. District will reach out to you to schedule your appointment for verification and to obtain an SUSD badge. At your appointment you will have your ID badge photo taken.  You must wear ID badge while volunteering on campus at Arcadia.
 
STEP 4: Complete Background Check
  • WHO NEEDS ONE?  Most on campus volunteers will need to submit to an annual background check.  This is required if volunteers will be out of the line of sight of “Certified Staff” at any time.  Those who are not background checked will have more limited volunteer opportunities.   If you have questions about whether your volunteer position requires a background check, please contact Dedra Kakou dkakou@susd.org.   
  • HOW MUCH IS IT?  As of 2023-24 the background check costs $50.  You can bring your check or cash for the background check to your appointment at the district location.  If you would like to volunteer but the background check fee poses a hardship, please let Dedra Kakou dkakou@susd.org know to help and protect your confidentiality. 
  • DO YOU NEED TO DO IT EVERY SCHOOL YEAR?  Yes
  • WHO DOES THE BACKGROUND CHECK?  The district will take care of running the background check after you have paid the fee - you will not be required to submit fingerprints or take additional steps.
STEP 5: Wear Your Badge
  1. Remember to wear your ID badge whenever volunteering.
